”The six chapters that comprise this work tackle key questions for Poland and Spain alike: the restoration of democracy in both countries, Polish and Spanish foreign policy, and the integration of both countries into the European Union. The Polish and Spanish authors search both for similarities and differences between two countries that are, although geographically distant in a European context, similar to each other with respect to the size of their populations and close in cultural and civilisational matters, while differing from each other in historical experiences. As a result of the common efforts of Polish and Spanish researchers, all subjects tackled in this book are analysed from the perspective of both countries. These analyses provoke reflection on the internal problems these countries face, as well as the role of medium-sized countries in the modern world. Particular attention is paid not only to the difficult process of systemic transformation that both countries experienced, but also the present day, and in particular the challenges that both Poland and Spain will face in the coming years, especially in the sphere of European integration.
